Bands getting turfed as Glasgow Green goes brown

Droughts can happen in Scotland, and a particularly dry and hot spring and early summer saw parched parkland across the country, including the grassy Glasgow Green, which turned a crispy brown. The City of Glasgow knew that this wouldn’t do, so it elected to spend tens of thousands of pounds to green up the Green to look good for the cameras at the World Pipe Band Championships. By the time the World’s rolled around, though, the more typically wet weather had socked in across Scotland, in hindsight making the whole expensive endeavour a waste of taxpayer money. The World Champions pipe band got the usual £1500 for their green-footed efforts.
